Google’s YouTube division  just bought Directr, a two year old company that has a movie making app for smartphones. And like a all things Google, it’s free, but it didn’t used to be. Directr had a subscription model that cost users $25-400 a month.

The app targets businesses who want short vids for marketing. It has features to make  it easy to upload to say…YouTube. It has build in mentoring and scaffolding features to foster higher production value like storyboarding and “point and shoot.”

Right now, Directr is only for iPhone, but with this aquisition, Android users should be getting some of the lights, camera, action pretty soon.
Be Calm and Carry On is the official line from Directr, which posted this on the site. “For now, everything you love about Directr is staying the same and we’ll continue to focus on helping businesses create great video quickly and easily.”

Is it a match made in heaven? I Don’t know, but it’s free so who cares? (MarketingLand.com)
