New York City Department of Health announced on July 14 that the West Nile Virus has been detected in 2 neighborhoods.
Health Department reminds New Yorkers to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites.Aerial larviciding scheduled to kill immature mosquitoes before they can bite.
Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett warns that the virus is very dangerous although no cases of human infection has been reported yet. New Yorkers over the age of 50 however, should be cautious. Bassett explains that those individuals are more likely to develop a serious illness.

The good news is that not everyone who gets infected with the virus will show symptoms. Symptoms do include the following:
1. Rash
2. Neurological Diseases
3. Flu-like Illness with Headache
4. Fever and Fatigue
