President and Founder Anjan Manikumar recently opened a restaurant in Toronto that is the first of its kind. The restaurant, appropriately named Signs, requires that patrons order with sign language.

The menus and drink lists all have a cheat sheet so there are no excuses for not knowing the language. To further enforce this policy, Manikumar has hired only deaf employees for his restaurant, giving many a unique opportunity to find a job that cannot be done by anyone else.

Manikumar has found a unique balance between community and business. On the Signs website, there have already been many rave reviews:
Congratulations for this Deaf friendly grand opening in July. This is going to be the biggest hit for all Deaf communities globally in the eyes of the world to recognize the official language of ASL.
 All the best.

It is so wonderful and unique way to support Deaf community. Hopefully the business prospers !!
This is amazing! Can’t wait for this restaurant to open ! Congratulations !
The success of his restaurant will pave the way for similar future opportunities worldwide and we wish him the best of luck.

You can book a seat through their Open Table link next time you are in Toronto.
