Transformers 5: Bay May Pass on Directing

“There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make.”

Filmmaker Michael Bay may not come back to helm Transformers 5, instead expecting to give the reins to a new director.

In a USA Today interview, Bay said he believes he’ll hand directing duties on Transformers 5 over to someone else so he can work on other projects, such as a documentary about elephant poaching. “There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make,” said Bay, who’s helmed all four live-action Transformers flicks. “I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.”

Bay doesn’t elaborate on who may take over directing duties for Transformers 5, which is scheduled to come out in 2016. And whoever steps in for Bay will have their hands full, as Transformers: Age of Extinction just recently passed the $1 billion milestone worldwide.

Needless to say, plans can change as Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura previously said he wanted Bay (and Wahlberg) to stick around and push the film franchise forward. But let us know what you think in the comments below. Are you happy Michael Bay may not direct Transformers 5?
